Phonies; the art of photo journalism
This weeks lecture focused on the role of photography in journalism. From professional shots to the iphone snaps and terrible photoshop manipulations.
I was particularly intrigued by this lecture, as it broadened my thoughts about news. It's not just words on a paper or people behind a desk. A single picture can convey much more than any tv time slot.
Although many aspects are important to get the money shot (lighting, focus, framing), the revolution of "phonies" or phone photo journalists is quite inspiring. Having the ability to snap that perfect moment anywhere anyhow. I'm sure professional photographers aren't particularly impressed but it is quite an exciting time.
Below is an interesting article I found that talks about the pros and cons of phone journalists.

The videos in the lecture were also quite note worthy, form the traditional news show with new readers literally reading the news from newspapers to the video of modern photo manipulation, altering spines and enlarging eyes. Quite unnerving really.
Another site I found that caused some chuckles, some photoshop gurus need to give up.

I'm enjoying the contrasts made in the past few lectures, of the new and old. News seems to be on the move and who really knows were it can go from here.
Now a word from the Journalist Camel!
