Propaganda is used as a tool
to help shape images in the minds of humans
This weeks lecture demonstrated the power of agenda setting, further highlighting the crippling control society has over the masses. Is the media the new Hitler? Surely not, but it can twist and manipulate us to believe all sorts of jargon with its propaganda-like abilities. Media gatekeeping is one of the terms used to describe the control of information exposed to society, how individuals (corporations, government bodies, aliens and other conspiracy theories) manipulate the messages that get out in the media like water from a guina pigs drip feeder. Not only can they down play but they can hype up, known as agenda surfing or the bandwagon effect where one particular topic is spun into importance. As seen with the Kony 2012 phenomenon (like this page and all the world's child slavery problems will be fixed), littering Facebook news feeds and night news segments.
News is controlled. Don't delude yourself to think it's a free World so we are kept in the loop. There's a process of the media known as the diffusion of news; how, when, where and when big stories are released to us. Everything is controlled, even the portrayal of an issue, what agenda is being indulged, influencing the masses through presentation, reporting and even the cover picture. As you can see lately in the news all the gun stories, every second article/segment is on some shooting or stolen guns. Then you here the Government wants to reform the gun laws making it even harder to get armed, coincidence? I think not. I'm not insinuating that the government is making crime but what i think is going on is certain things like gun assaults are always happening but at key moments they are put in to overwhelm the news to sway voters into thinking and doing certain things. Little bit of conspiracy theory, don't mind me.
