How do you judge something as ethical or unethical, crude or good taste, inappropriate and acceptable? A task advertisers are left to figure out. How will society view what they are producing. Isn't the saying any publicity is good publicity? I guess to a point this is true, but I can personally say when I see something completely in poor taste I hold onto it and death stare the product when I'm shopping, avoiding it like the blemish it is on society (completely sane don't even question it!).
Often the problem I think with advertising and being ethical is the "sex sells" idea, it results in a great deal of racy imagery out in the public which can be quite inappropriate. Somehow sexism always seems to weasel its way in. Unfortunately a surprisingly large amount of racist advertising leaks out as well, haven't we all moved on from that? Isn't this the 2000s?
