Lecture 3

Don't go messin' boy. Get to the point.

In this weeks lecture the art of article writing was discussed in detail, what separates a side column and a lead. Although I remembered something similar from primary school, the inverted pyramid did clarify the structure of articles. Although I'm terrible at math I do enjoy a well structured formula and to me thats how the inverted pyramid appeared, the fool proof way to make a winning article. Of course it isn't that easy but at least these guidelines will point you in the right direction.

What is text?

Fast...Flexible...portable....searchable!

It is also strong content, headlines, standfirst and social platforms.

Text in many senses is quite fluid, it adapts to its environment like a sneaky chameleon. In a newspaper text is presented in an impersonal, for the masses, everyone sees the same thing. Lets hope that most people who buy our press like the cover sort of mentality (at least thats how I see it). Whereas when text is exposed via the internet on news websites it can be more tailored to the reader, as the sites categorise news stories to grab peoples person interests and additional links to similar stories.

Let's face it new news is on the up. It's more convient and cost effective to produce and whether everyone likes it or not it is inevitably the future. With all these changes to the media I think people keep overlooking the most important part. What about the crazy people who rely on the newspapers for bedding and to fill the emptiness in their homes and lives.

Here's a funny video I found on the issues of loons and the decline of traditional media, enjoy!
